If we are going to learn a second language, let it be one that has universal acceptance! French does not meet this criterion. It has been in steady decline as a language of use since the end of WW11. While it is spoken in many places throughout the world, it is an "Official language" in very few - e.g. Quebec, France, part of Belgium, in one Canton in Switzerland, Haiti and quite a number of small African Countries that are identified as Officially French speaking, but the general population speak their native language and none would be considered a tourist destination. French has been foisted on Canadians for political reasons - to appease Quebec, but, after forty years of French immersion, government stats show less than a one percent increase in functionally bilingual Canadians. Even more problematic, is the fact that Quebec is "Officially French speaking", not bilingual French /English and their recorded stated objective is a French speaking - not a bilingual speaking Canada! How can this translate into a "Bilingual" Canada? Canadians are being deceived big time. On this issue, there is no honesty. There is no accountability!

Does anyone believe that the "Government of Alberta" would lift of finger to protect the environment if it meant less oil royalties? Big Oil and Albertan Government are different heads on the same body pursuing profit / tax regardless of the environmental impact on Albertan lands or, for that matter, the world's climate. The most senseless, stupid scrounging for energy to discount your children's future.

It appears to me that the only thing guiding this country right now is the skill of great speech writers. Even this post, for example, is so eloquent and well written! Nice job. If only it could receive the attention it needs!
On the bright side though, if anyone is looking for an excellent writer, I have the ability to express all sorts of wonderful and wordy (empty) promises.

The problem is that no matter what we decide on election day, this problem will go on and on. No leader present can combat this problem without the support of everyone in parliament, including the opposition parties. The longer these schoolyard children act like this, focusing on being PM instead of working together for a stable Canada this sort of political garbage will go on.

If now is the time to fight, then fight! Fight for true democracy! Fight against the plutocracy of our country! Fight against the corporatist global regime that is growing! Fight!
A vote, though, is not a fight. Your vote is simply validating a false democracy. Your vote is a negative one; voting against one person, not voting for the other - and that, sir or madam, is not democracy. A fight means standing up against something, not going with the flow to hope for the least possible pain.
The Egyptian people fought. The Tunisians fought. The Libyans continue to fight. They all had their version of a false democracy. Up until recently, Egypt's elections were considered democratic by the United States and Canada. People had no choice there, and neither do we here - simply a grand illusion of one.
I have not given up hope Boots, I have stood up and begun my fight against the grain that is our society.
I am not sending in a checked ballot, but rather I am writing, making films, writing songs and talking to the people to explain my grief and discontent of our country's present political, economic, and social climate. A checked ballot? Which of us has given up? The person who is speaking out? Or the one who is checking a pre-made box?
