Since the massive hospital workers firing 6-7 years ago, I've lost a close friend to a super bug he caught in the hospital; I've met dozens of victims of the firing (layoff!!!) who were forced to shop at the local recycling depot with their EI $'s, living with their parents, driving old bargs because they lost their mortgaged cars! I lost my job due to the economic downturn over 2 yrs., ago! So the HST is now affecting everyone! But this dictatorship has been eroding B.C., for its entire term(s). Who actually voted them in again? It wasn't Vancouver Island!!!!!! It wasn't anyone paying attention to privatization or doing research on, oh lets say, the Fast Cat fiasco. How many millions purposely lost to make the NDP look bad--that's all that was! Fast Cats are working fine in the Maritimes and Australia! What's left to sell to liberal supporters, BC Hydro, then we can pay more for hydro too. Private industry seldom answers for bad eco developement, so all those harsh impact power projects can slide ahead, with no Board of Directors (taxpayers) to answer to!

I remember the implimentation of the GST. Mainly it supplied the government with more jobs, more people who's livelyhood depended on who was in power, buying votes! I'd imagine the HST is no different. If the division (like legitimate charities) was publicly posted, so we could see where our tax increase was being spent, we could either accept it as an actual necessity or recall members who implimented this new and improved GSTish move!

As a senior living on my own, I have no way to survive the HST, I will lose my house, and many seniors are in the same boat. Low income families, will end up homeless, with the seniors. It is unforgivable, the children, will also have to live on the street, with their parents. Many of us do not even have the basics now. All of this has been caused by corruption, in, our governing bodies and, that has always been so. The only way we low income people have to cut back is food and utilities. In some families, the parents have, only one meal a day, to try to keep their children fed. Well, it has been said, the government is an ass, to even consider imposing an asinine HST. If you can't get anywhere with the horses ass, you are supposed to go to the horses head, unfortunately the horses head is empty.

An area of our consumer society that seems to have been overlooked in the current outcry against the HST is the insurance industry. Currently, the following services are exempt from PST and GST: interest, insurance premiums and most other financial services.

When we look at the current GST free insurance industry, the question must be asked; how will the HST affect the average Canadian? When looking at the large number of insurance policies carried by the average Canadian (life, disbility, car, fire, home, earthquake to name a few) you can bet your boots insurance is going to cost a lot more when the HST is enacted.

Who is going to carry the extra cost? The consumer of course.
