We should be thankful that the swine flu did not spread very rapidly. it is not very deadly like Ebola but swine flu can still kill you.

Apparently basic fact checking isn't a high priority. H1N1 and concern over its return int the fall has been a high Aprofile news story since last spring. Increased concern over the potential impact of a fall pandemic began as early as July when a vaccine was isolated and moved into production. The federal government and provinces have been aware of the need for vaccination programs since at least that time.

Your statement, "What’s difficult to uncover, however, are the basic facts and statistics regarding the H1N1 virus, and what we can do if we contract it" is bizarre on its face. The Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA), for one example, published a key peer-reviewed study of the Canadian experience with H1N1 at the beginning of October. The study included keys statistics and information about morbidity and mortality of the virus as well as impacts on hospital ICUs.

Calling the roll out of the H1N1 vaccine as a "Conservative mass inoculation program" unnecessarily politicized what is a public health issue. All of the key decisions on this process - what vaccine to produce, when to produce it and what quantities- has largely been left to the public health authorities and rightly so. Your concerns over the timeliness and efficacy of the vaccination program are certainly valid and shared by many Canadians, especially after Canada's experience with SARS and Avian Flu. That we are not more prepared is a major concern. Some of this, however, is explained by the division of power and responsibilities between the federal and provincial governments.

Your decision to inoculate yourself and your family against H1N1 is ultimately yours but the information is widely and easily available and has been for some time.
