Even today women who lost their citizenship prior to 1947 because they married non-Canadians remain as stateless and must apply for citizenship. There was no amnesty for Canadian women in 1947. The only time a woman finds she is a non-citizen although born in Canada is when she applies for a passport. Women who went to foreign countries like Nathalie Morin were deemed to owe allegiance to the country of their husband and were unable to return to Canada. Women should demand that this discriminatory law against women be removed and made retroactive. Canadians should demand an amnesty for all Canadian women.
