Top 10 Changes that Should be Made to Canadian Politics
First of all, I want to thank InformedVote for giving me the medium to express my thoughts.
So I thought I’d start off by introducing myself a little bit. I’m a 24 year old student living in the greater Toronto Area. I’ve always been interested in politics since the day I have been able to read the newspaper. The one thing I have learned about politics is that I have absolutely no idea what is going on. Nobody does. Not even the politicians. I intend my blog to be a place where people can go to find unique and humorous opinions on a broad range of political subjects. Please feel free to send me your emails when you have an opinion you’d like to share with me.
So for my first blog, I thought I`d share with everybody my wish list for changes I`d like to see to the Canadian Political System:
1. Ban all men from Political Office – Controversial, maybe. Grossly Unconstitutional, yes. But in my opinion, men are much more greedy and unsympathetic than women are. Women are natural care givers and won’t let pride get in the way of sound judgment.
2. Make politics transparent- Literally. I want all the political buildings made out of glass so I can see everything that is being done inside.
3. Make lie detectors available at all political discussions.
4. Have a priorities list. I want to know every day what Stephen Harper’s priorities are for Canada.
5. You have to be a rich loner to be a politician. This eliminates politicians taking bribes and handing out government contracts to their buddies.
6. Have a conversation about Darfur.
7. Officially declare Toronto the most important city in Canada. Torontonians already think it, let’s make it official.
8. Stand up to the Americans. They gave us 8 years of George Bush, and we’re going to suffer another 5 years of a recession because of him. Everyday I’m told to be scared of Iran, China or Russia. I’m scared of republicans, and I’m tired of keeping that to myself.
9. Be brutally honest. A big pet peeve of mine is when somebody is murdered, and the victim’s mother comes on television and cries about how her baby was such an ‘angel’ and ‘never hurt anyone’. In the months after I always read about the circumstances surrounding their deaths – either he was involved in a gang or it was a drug rip off gone bad. So-called gangsters always brag about how bad they are to friends and in music video’s, so stay consistent. Just once I’d like to hear: “My son was caught up in a gang and made some bad choices in his life, and now he’s paid the ultimate price.” It’s honest and it’s a good lesson for the kids watching at home.
10. Make Rick Mercer the Prime Minister. Sure this contradicts suggestion #1, but since I’m a political writer now, I feel I have the right to flip-flop a little bit.
