Harper's Economic Optimism Worries Me

Speaking at a Chinese New Year festival near Toronto this weekend, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said he hopes that the Year of the Ox will also be the year of the return of the bull market. Our major banks would have to disagree with this statement. Both TD Bank and the Bank of Nova Scotia predict our economy will continue to shrink and will loses hundreds of thousands jobs (in addition to the hundreds of thousands already lost) by year end. US analysts predict the economy will not recover until 2010 at best.

Harper’s comment concerns me. Does he even believe half the stuff that comes out of his mouth? If he truly believes the economy is going to recover, then we have a Prime Minister that does not understand the economy. In this case, timing could not be worse. We need a leader that is well versed in economics to lead us through these tough times.

On the other hand, if Harper does NOT believe the economy is going to recover this year, why mislead Canadians with unrealistic comments? It is unfair to be anything but completely honest with Canadians as we struggle through the recession.

So what is he doing? Being a bad leader, or misleading us? Or perhaps a bit of both?

In 2008, I made $40,100.In 2009, I’m on track to make $10,000.I have lost my apt of 5 years in Vancouver to live in a half size basement suite in Surrey.I have jettisoned 3/4 of my possessions.I gave up looking for work 13 months ago and have been on call with 3 labour pimp agencies ever since-it’s beginning to look very permanent, since they have a head hunting fee, I will never get full time work.
Kaputalism is undemocratic (we all have the same needs) it commits suicide every 20 years, there is 1.14 quadrillion in unregulated paper BS-several times the value of all the worlds tangible hard assets-how corrupt!I guess this figure includes the value of the magma under the earth’s crust and the speculative value of land on the moon, the asteroids and Mars.If these pathological gamblers on Wall St want to live like pirates, then they should die like pirates-arm yourselves financiers-I challenge you to a duel!Class War Now!!!!!!!!!
