Harper Bites Liberal Budget Bullet

MPs voted 214 to 84 in favour of the Liberal budget amendments today. As expected, the NDP and Bloc voted against these changes.

Michael Ignatieff must be jumping for joy.

The balance of power has now shifted towards the Liberal side. Iggy has the opportunity to rebuild the Liberal Party for an election and can express no confidence in the government on three separate occasions over the next year. So when he feels the Liberals are ready, he can reject a Conservative budget update and bring another election to Canadian citizens.

The best part is the fact that the economy will not begin to recover over the course of these three confidence votes, so Iggy has a perfect excuse to vote no.
