NDP Delays Legislation to End York University Strike
As reported by Michael Sheps, MPPs were summoned to Queen’s Park today in order to attempt to pass a bill that would immediately send York University strikers back to work and resume classes for 50,000 students. The strike will soon enter its 82nd day, and both York and CUPE 3903 union representatives are at a deadlock.
The back-to-work legislation could have ended the strike at York University, but the NDP’s eight members voted against early passage, arguing that an end to the 11-week-old labour dispute should not be forced by the government. They argued that the bargaining process should still be given a chance.
So what happens next?
The legislation will have to be debated several times before it can go to a final vote, likely later this week or early next week. That could delay the start of classes for many more weeks – something both the students and university can hardly afford.

I think this strike is no good! I think the back to work legislation should pass and I wrote about it in my blog. I voted NDP but now have found out they only stand for unionized workers not everyday workers like they claim. It’s all in my blog. I’m not a fan of unions, mainly because I worked under a union and all they did was take dues and didn’t actually make a difference in the workplace. This strike is going to far!
