A New Age: A Time For Change

Barack Obama Being Sworn in as President of the United States
It is inauguration day. Today, we watched history enfold itself. Today we watched a man dedicated to change, dedicated to a world of peace, dedicated to his fellow citizens stand and take power – not into his own hands, but rather into the hands of the future. Today we witnessed the start of a long journey, but one filled with hope. As the torch gets passed from the old generation to the new, questions linger in everyone’s mind, questions only answered by time itself.
During his speech, President Obama did not once look down at his notes, he did not once look down to collect his thoughts, he looked forward. He looked to the seas of people who had been awaiting this day. He looked towards what lies ahead, the heavy tasks that lay in the future to correct this faltered world. He looked towards those who stood in the way of progress and denounced their heavy-handed ways. His action is symbolic of the man he is. Far exceeding his words – which was like poetry, sending chills down my spine and a tear down my cheek – his body showed the world what the future will bring. We must all take sight of this and do the same. Look ahead to your opponents, look ahead to your battle, look ahead to the future, and not at your feet or any small obstacles in the way. Do not shy from any problem, take courage, honor and truth by your side and take the 21st Century as we should have 8 years ago. Above all else take hope, imagination and solidarity for change to create a world of peace, started not by countries, not by politics, not companies or organizations, but started by individuals. Do what is in your power to change the world into a better place.
In Canada, we await the resumption of parliament. With this new change, and our eyes on sight of what we cannot see – a future around the bend with the dream of a better world – are we to allow petty differences of politicians and political parties denounce what it is to be Canadian? The world looks to the West for leadership, not just our neighbors to the South. They await change to occur, they await leadership, they await citizens to stand for their rights and duty to demand what is best for our country! Whether a vote of confidence occurs or not, we are in need of new leadership. Someone akin to Trudeau who so eloquently said “just watch me”. Someone willing to stand up and denounce the corporate funding of political parties. Someone who can take our country which deserves a prominent leader and a prominent new voice into this world of change. Canada has been plagued by puppet leader after puppet leader, been plagued by inaction, bureaucracy, and false promises. We have been plagued by indecisiveness not just in politics but in our citizens. But worse, we have been plagued by a lack of citizens caring to vote. Canada needs a new party willing to stand against this two party system which should have never been set in place. Choosing between the lesser of evils should not be your only choice in the polls.
President Obama’s glimmering hope should give power to those who were too scared to shine, allow the world to light up the corners of darkness, and allow those who believe freedom and democracy are the cornerstones of our society to stand up and let their voices be heard.
It is time for change.
It is time for Canada’s voice to be heard; No more inter-party politics, no more feuding between the leaders of our country; no more twisting of our rights and freedoms; and no more rhetoric to sway the voters of our nation! Canada needs a leader! Who is up for the task ahead?

No comments on the article, but I did notice that the photo and cutline do not match. This must be from some Senate swearing in from the past. It’s not his swearing in as US president photo. Hope this is helpful.
